2 c. water (microwaved for 2 minutes)
1 c. oatmeal
1 T. Crisco (size of a medium egg)
1 tsp. salt
1/4 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. or less ground flax seed

Directions:
Directions:
Combine water, oatmeal, crisco, salt, brown sugar and ground flax seed in a large mixing bowl.

In another bowl, add molasses (pour the 1/2 cup warm water to get all the molasses out of the measuring cup. Add sugar, and yeast and combine with a whisk.

Combine the two mixtures in the large mixing bowl and mix well. Beat in flour.

Scrape down the bowl and sprinkle with a bit of flour. Cover and let rise to the top of the bowl, about two hours.

Lunch down and out into graces and floured pans (I use one pan slightly smaller than the other). Sprinkle a bit of oatmeal over the top and let rise to just above the top of the pans.

Bake at 400º for 10 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 350º and make the smaller pan for 22 minutes and the larger for 26 minutes.

This is Grammie Gile's recipe, with my twists. After Mom gave me Grammie's bread bowl, I began making this over and over, perfecting the recipe to my own tastes.
