1/2 c butter, cut into chunks
1 c plus 1 T granulated sugar
1 c all-purpose flour
1 t baking powder
2 large eggs
1 c fresh blackberries
1 t powdered sugar

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. Butter and flour a 9" cake pan with removable rim.
Using an electric mixer, blend 1 c sugar and butter, then beat on high speed until well-blended, about 3 minutes. Add flour, baking powder and eggs. Stir to combine then beat on high speed until well-blended, about 2 minutes. Batter will be stiff.
Scrape batter into pan and smooth top. Scatter berries evenly over batter and sprinkle with remaining tablespoon of sugar.
Bake until cake just begins to pull away from the rim, about 55-60 minutes.
Run a thin-bladed knife between the cake and pan rim. Let cool at least 10 minutes. Remove pan rim and dust cake with powdered sugar. Cut into wedges.

Variation - combine (2 cups of sour cream, 2egg yolks, and 1/2 sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Spread over berries.
