1 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 eggs
4 c. flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

FROSTING:
1/4 c. butter
2 egg whites
4 c. confectioners sugar
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. vanilla

milk as needed
Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 325º.

Cream butter and sugar in large mixing bowl. Add eggs one at a time. Sift dry ingredients together in a smaller bowl, then add to creamed mixture. Cover and chill in refrigerator one hour or up to two days.

Roll out small portion of cookie dough on floured surface to desired thickness. Cut cookie shapes and place on cookie sheets lined with parchment paper. Bake 10 minutes or until edges begin to turn golden. Remove from oven to cooking rack. Cool thoroughly before icing.

To Make Frosting:
Mix all ingredients in large mixing bowl. Thin with milk to desired frosting consistency. Tint with color as needed.
