1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 T. corn syrup
1 (8-9 inch) round loaf of Challah bread
6 slices of cinnamon swirl bread
5 large eggs
1 1/2 cups half and half
1 tsp. vanilla
1 T. Grand Marnier
1/4 tsp. salt

In a heavy saucepan melt butter with brown sugar and corn syrup over moderate heat stirring constantly until smooth. Pour mixture into a 13 X 9 X 2 inch baking dish. Cut bread in 1 inch cubes. Arrange on top of the sugar mixture, top with whole slices of cinnamon swirl bread.
Whisk together half and half with eggs, vanilla, Grand Marnier, and salt. Pour evenly over bread. Cover and chill from 8 hours to 1 day.
Bring bread mixture to room temperature, preheat oven to 350º. Bake uncovered in the middle of the oven until puffed and the edges are pale golden, 35-40 minutes.

This has become a family and Sisters at Heart favorite. I usually use the sweet Hawaiian Bread or even sour dough bread because I have never found the bread this recipe calls for in my stores.
