cake:
1/3 c. shortening
1½ c. sugar
2 eggs
2½ c. flour
2½ c. sour cherries, pitted and drained (save juice)
1½ tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. baking soda
½ tsp. salt
1 c. milk

hot cherry sauce:
½ c. sugar
2 tbsp. cornstarch
¾ c. cherry juice
1 c. water
¼ tsp. almond extract
1/8 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cake - Cream shortening and sugar, blend in eggs. Add dry ingredients, alternating with milk. Add cherries. Bake in a 13 x 9 pan at 350º for 50 minutes.

Hot cherry sauce - Mix ingredients, cook until thick like pudding. Top cake and serve.
