1 pkg dry yeast
1/4 C. warm water
1/3 C. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/4 C. shortening
1 C. milk
2 eggs
1/4 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. lemon zest
1/4 tsp. mace
3 1/2 to 4 C. flour
1 C. margarine
1 egg
2 T. sugar
1/3 C. chopped nuts

Directions:

Dissolve yeast in warm water. Mix sugar, salt,1/4 C. shortening and scalded milk. Blend and cool to luke warm. Add eggs, yeast and flavorings. Stir in enough flour to make soft dough. Let rise until double. Soften margarine to room temperature. Roll dough into a square 1/2" thick. Dot with half the margarine to 2" from edge. Fold dough in half and seal edges. Roll and dot with remaining margarine. Roll and fold 3 more times. Let rise 20 minutes. Roll and cut into 3 1/2" to 4" squares. Place jam or jelly in middle. Bring two pointy edges together and pinch over jam. Brush with egg and sugar. Top with nuts. Bake at 450º for 8 to 10 minutes.
