2 1/4 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup butter or margarine - softened
1/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup light brown sugar - firmly packed
1 tsp vanilla
1 pkg (4 serving size) vanilla pudding
2 eggs
1 pkg (12 oz) chocolate chips
1 cup chopped nuts ( optional )

Mix flour and baking soda. Combine butter, vanilla, the sugars and pudding mix in large bowl. Beat until smooth and creamy. Beat in eggs. Gradually add flour mixture, then stir in chocolate chips and nuts. Batter will be stiff. Drop onto ungreased baking sheet and bake for 8 to 10 minutes at 375 degrees F. For double chocolate chip cookies use chocolate flavoured instant pudding instead of vanilla
