Directions:Combine butter and 1/2 c. of the flour, add sour cream mixture and beat by hand for 1 minute. Add 2 egg yolks and 1/2 c. of the flour and beat by hand another minute. Stir in remaining flour. Sprinkle 1/4 c. flour on kneading surface and turn out dough mixture. Knead dough until smooth and elastic. About 8-10 minutes. Divide dough into 3 equal pieces and form into disk shape. Cover with plastic wrap and chill 2-24 hours. To prepare filling: beat egg whites until stiff and combine with the walnuts, sugar and vanilla. To form Kifle: On a surface sprinkled with powdered sugar, roll each disk into a 10 inch circle. You can use a 10 inch pot lid to measure and cut the circle. Cut each circle into 8 equal pie shaped wedges. Place wedge with the pointed edge facing you. Place 1-2 tsp nut filling in center of wedge. Take the top 2 corners and fold toward the center over the filling. Roll the top toward the point forming a crescent like shape. Make sure the point of the triangle is placed under bottom of the crescent when placing on the pan. Brush with melted butter and place on pan and bake at 375 degrees for 18-20 minutes. Remove and let cool. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Makes 24 kifle. |
