4 oz unsweetened chocolate
1 cup shortening or butter (or 1/2 and 1/2)
2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 cup milk
4 eggs

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. Grease and flour two 9" round cake pans (9x13" doesn't work here). Melt chocolate and shortening or butter together in a saucepan or double boiler. Stir in vanilla. In separate bowl mix flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together. Add the chocolate mixture, milk, and eggs, and beat until smooth. Spread into pans and bake for 30-35 minutes. Cool in the pans for 5 minutes before turning onto racks.
