1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup shortening
1 1/2 tsp.. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
1 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
4 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. salt
4 cups unsifted All purpose flour
1 cup raisins

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and shortening together. Add eggs and vanilla. Beat well. Dissolve baking soda in the buttermilk and add to creamed mixture. Stir in sifted dry ingredients lightly. Lastly, add raisins. Dough should be soft. Add 1 or 2 tsp. additional flour you wish. Roll dough 3/8 inch thick on floured board. Cut with a floured biscuit cutter and place on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375º F about 20 minutes.
