"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º F. For crust, beat butter in a large mixing bowl with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add sugar and salt; beat until combined, scraping sides of bowl occasionally. Beat in the flour on low speed until combined. Press two-thirds of the crust mixture into the bottom of an ungreased 13x9x2-inch baking pan.

For filling, combine sweetened condensed milk and chocolate in a medium saucepan. Stir over low heat until chocolate melts and mixture is smooth. Remove from heat. Stir in nuts and vanilla. Spread hot mixture over the crust. Dot with remaining crust mixture.

Bake in the preheated oven about 35 minutes or until golden. Cool in pan on a wire rack. To ensure even squares, coll the layered bars thoroughly before cutting so they have time to set up. Cut into squares.
