2 cups Granulated sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup Ghiradelli Cocoa Powder
1 rounded teaspoon baking powder
1 pinch salt
2 unbeaten eggs
2/3 cup butter, softened
1 1/3 cup buttermilk or regular milk
2 tsp. vanilla
2 teaspoons strong instant coffee (brewed in 1-2 TB warm water)

Frosting:
1 box powdered sugar
3/4 cup butter
5 tablespoons cocoa powder
3 tablespoons strong cold coffee
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 cup slivered almonds

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Sift flour into large bowl. Add the sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt to the flour. Cream butter with eggs, milk, vanilla and coffee. Add to flour mixture and combine. Pour batter into two, greased 9-inch cake pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes.

For Frosting: Beat all ingredients together and frost cooled cake. Brown 1 cup slivered almonds in oven and crush with a rolling pin. Spread over top and sides of cake.
