3/4 cup shortening
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup chopped nuts
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
1/2 tsp salt
Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, vanill, sugar and egg; beat well. Add nuts and mix. Sift dry ingredients together; add to creamed mixture gradually. Knead dough with hands until smooth. Pack firmly and shape into 2 logs; wrap in wax paper and chill. Cut in slices. Bake on greased cookie sheets in hot oven at 400ºF for 6-8 minutes.
