3/4 c. butter
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/4 c. molasses
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 egg, beaten
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. flour
1/2 c. almonds
2 tsp. soda

Directions:
Directions:
Melt butter and cool a little. Combine sugar, molasses and egg. Add flour, soda, cloves, ginger, cinnamon, salt and nuts. Chill thoroughly. Make into balls, roll in sugar, flatten with fork. Bake at 375º for 8-10 minutes.

This recipe has been handed down from many generations of Lynden Christian alumni. My grandmother, Leah (Van Weerdhuizen) Vander Ploeg, attended Lynden Christian School from 1911-1915; my mother, Alice (Vander Ploeg) Hoekema, graduated from Lynden Christian's 8th grade in 1933; and I (Cheryl Hoekema Roorda) graduated from Lynden Christian High School in 1964.
