3 c rhubarb slices
1/2 c sugar
1/2 to 3/4 c water
1/4 c shortening
2/3 c sugar
1 tsp grated orange peel
1 egg
1 c flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
2/3 c milk
1/2 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Combine rhubarb, 1/2 c sugar & water, cook 10 to 15 minutes.
Cream shortening and 2/3 c sugar, add peel & egg.
Add sifted dry ingredients to creamed mixture, alternating with milk.
Stir until batter is smooth.
Add vanilla.
9x9 greased pan, pour hot rhubarb sauce over batter.
Bake 350º 40 to 45 minutes.
Serve warm with cream.
