Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 Big heaping tbps. shortening
3 tbs. salt (medium rounding)
4 tbs. sugar rounding plus 1 handful
2 1/2 large glasses warm water
2 yeast cakes
Flour

Directions:
Directions:
Mix shortening, salt, sugar, warm water & yeast cakes. Let stand to cool.
Fix in large dish pan with (I don't know how much) flour banked all around the side of the pan leaving a well in the center to pour the water, shortening, yeast etc. mixture into the well of the flour.
Whip or mix with large spoon working the flour in gradually. When it gets so thick & heavy you can't mix it with the spoon anymore dump some flour on the table & knead dough adding flour from the table. When dough is of the consistency for forming into loaves cut into chunks for loaf pans, shape into loaves and place in greased bread pan. Cover with tea towel & place in warm place to rise. When dough has risen to over the top of the bread pan, bake @ 350º for approx. 50-60 min. until golden brown. If the bread is too heavy let it rise higher. (but if too high there will be big holes in it. Go ahead and give it a try and learn the art of making Grandma Nemmer's bread with trial and error.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
"WARNING" Don't have too big a bowl of water, yeast etc, to start with because the 1st time I made Grandma's bread I had so much dough it kept rolling off the table & I'd catch it & throw it back on the table & knead more flour into it until it was right. Then I put it in bread pans (all the pans I had!) I was baking bread until midnight. If you have too many loaves for baking at one time put some in a cooler place to rise so they don't all need to be baked at the same time.

By using Grandma Nemmers' recipe of a pinch of this, a handful of that & a dash of something else, I finally learned how she did it! The kids loved the smell of home made bread when they came home from school.
