2 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp ground cloves
1 1/4 tsp ginger
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. molasses (dark)

1 egg yolk, unbeaten

Preheat oven to 350º.

Sift together first 8 ingredients. Cream together next 3 ingredients. Beat in egg yolk & add to flour mixture. Roll out to 1/4" thickness. Cut with cutters. Bake 12-15 minutes.

1 1/4 c. confectioner's sugar
1/4 tsp cream of tartar
1 egg white
1/4 tsp vanilla

Mix all together, beat with mixer on high for 5 minutes.
