2 sticks butter, room temperature
5 eggs, room temperature, separated
2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla 1/2 cup milk, room temperature

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 450º.
Grease and flour tube pan.
Beat egg whites to soft peaks and set aside.
combine flour and baking powder and set aside
combine milk and vanilla and set aside
Cream butter and sugar
Add egg yolks one at a time
Alternately add dry and wet ingredients a third at a time, beating well between additions.
Beat good and hard 5-10 minutes
Fold in egg whites
pour into pan.
Bake 10 minutes at 450º
Lower oven temp to 350º and bake an additional 60 minutes
Cool in pan on rack for 30 minutes
Remove from pan and cool completely before frosting

Can be made in sheet pan (double recipe)
or shaped cake pans (decrease cooking time to 5 minutes @ 450º and 45 minutes @350º
