Directions:
Mix together 3 c boiling water, 1 c shortening, and 2 T. salt. Then add 3 c cold water, 1/4 c sugar. Add enough flour to make a paste. Add 2 T instant yeast to 1 c flour add into batter and mix. Add more flour and knead to make a smooth dough. Sometimes I add 1 c mashed potatoes. You can also potato water in place of clear water. Sometimes I use part whole wheat flour in place of all white flour.
Let rise until doubled in size, about 1/2 hour (best in warm place) I warm the oven and dough rises faster.
Form and place on baking sheets - let rise again about 3/4 hour and bake in 400 º oven for 15 minutes. These will freeze well.
