1 lb. dates
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. water
1 c. white sugar
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. shortening
3 eggs
4 c. flour
1 t. soda

Directions:
Directions:
Boil dates, water and 1/2 c. sugar, cool. Make dough with the next six ingredients. Roll dough out onto a piece of wax paper. Spread date mixture on the dough. Roll like a jelly roll and let stand in refrigerator. Slice and bake at 350º. Roll the dough on wax paper and they will be easy to handle.
