1/2 c & 1T shortening
1 1/2 c sugar
2 eggs
1/4 c red food coloring (2oz)
2tsp cocoa
1 tsp salt
1 c buttermilk
2 1/2 c cake flour
1 tsp baking soda
1T hot water
1 tsp vinegar

Directions:
Cream sugar & shortening add eggs and beat, make a paste of food coloring & cocoa, add salt & buttermilk alternately with flour, add soda dissolved in hot water, last add vinegar.
Bake 350º 30 min in 2 8" round pans
frost with Favorite Fluffy White Icing
