3-5 pieces coal, egg size
food coloring, several colors
6 Tbsp. laundry bluing
6 Tbsp. salt
6 Tbsp. water
1 Tbsp. ammonia

Directions:
Directions:
Mix together the bluing, salt, water and ammonia. Drop some food coloring, several colors, over coal pieces and then carefully pour the laundry solution over the coal.

This is my mom's recipe. Children are fascinated with this because a colorful growth develops in an hour. I made this often as a child during those long winter months and it brought some color into our farm home.
