Cream these ingredients and then set aside:
¾ cup shortening
¼ cup dark molasses
1 cup sugar
1 egg

Sift following together:
2 cups flour
2 tsp. baking soda
¼ tsp. Salt
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon

After sifting dry ingredients, add creamed mixture to them. Roll dough into balls and then in sugar. Bake on greased cookie sheet @ 350 degrees for 6-10min.

These cookies are not adjusted for altitude but they work out just fine in Denver just the way it's written. Even if they look underdone, take them out after about 8 minutes, they will cook afterwards and turn out nice and chewy!
