2 c. raisins (I prefer the golden raisins)
4 c.cold water (put in a 3 qt. saucepan and boil 10 min.) Remove from stove . Let cool slightly.
Add 2 sticks butter or margarine
Cool until luke warm
Add 2 eggs, beaten
Sift together in a large bowl: 3/1/2 c. flour, 2 c. sugar, 2 tsp. soda,
l/2 tsp. salt, 2 tsp spice (1 1/4 tsp. cinnamon, 1/4 tsp ginger,1/4 tsp cloves & 1/4 tsp. nutmeg.

Preheat over to 375 degrees
Grease and ltly flour a 9x12 loaf pan.
Combine the raisin mixture with dry ingredients mixing thoroughly.Pour into prepared pan Bake 45 min. or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Frost as desired or sprinkle with powdered sugar. Keeps well.

This is beyond any doubt Dad's favorite cake! He especially likes it with cream cheese icing. (Adding chopped nuts on frosting adds an interesting touch) Grandma Bell made a similar cake she called "boiled raisin cake" which called for 1 c. of coffee as part of the liquid.
