Choose cucumbers from 5 to 6 inches long. Wash well and pack in clean earthenware jars or wooden casks. Fill the container with alternate layers of cucumbers and dill, including stalks, leaves and seed balls of dill. The layer of dill should be a thin one.

When fully packed, cover with a brine solution (2 pounds of salt to 3 quarts of water). Place a layer of washed grape or horseradish leaves on tip and weigh the whole thing down with a clean plate and stone. 2 or 3 weeks are required for curing.
