It may smell awful but I have found WD 40 to be the quickest way to salvage a full head of hair.

WD 40 also makes the stainless steel sink and bath fixtures shine like new. Remember to ventilate.

WD 40 can help keep your handgun or rifle from rusting in between proper cleanings as well. I just use an old sock to rub some in after I have handled my weapons.
