8 or 9 inch white or yellow cake, prepared
21 oz. can cherry pie filling

FROSTING SUPREME

1 cup milk
1 tbsp. cornstarch
1 cup fine sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup nuts, chopped (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Frost sides and top of cake with a thin layer of frosting. Mound remaining frosting on top edge of cake to form ridge. Spoon cherry pie filling into center of cake.
For frosting; combine milk and cornstarch in saucepan. Cook over medium heat until thickened. Cool. Combine sugar, shortening, butter, vanilla and salt; to cornstarch mixture and cream until smooth.
