1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
3 eggs
2 Tblsp. water
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
4 cups flour

Filling:
1 lb. dates, cut up
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup water

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter, shortening, and sugars. Add eggs and water and beat well. Add sifted dry ingredient gradually. Mix well. Roll out in two or more sections and spread with filling.
Filling:
Combine dates, sugar, and water. Boil until thick. Spread on dough. Roll up and put in refrigerator for at least 2 hours. Cut into slices and bake at 350º for about 10-12 minutes. Cool on wire rack.
