1 c. white sugar
1 c. brown sugar

2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 t. cinnamon
1/2 t. nutmeg
1/2 t. all spice
1/2 t. cloves
2 t. soda dissolved in 1/2 c. boiling water
1 c. raisins
1/3 c. chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and shortening, add eggs and beat. Add the rest of ingredients, mix well and bake at 350º for 45 minutes.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Aunt Lelah's recipe says she leaves out the allspice and cloves as they make the cake too hot for them. Also if she has 2 c. applesauce and doesn't have a use for the 1/2 cup left over she used all the applesauce and does not add the 1/2 c. boiling water.
