1 pkge yeast
1/12 cups lukewarm liquid,, mostly milk
1 T sugar
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
3 T butter
1/4 tsp mace or cinnamon
1 egg
1/2 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve yeast and 1 T sugar in liquid. Let stand for 5 - 10 minutes. Add 1 1/2 cups flour and beat well. Set aside for one hour. Cream balance of sugar and butter, add spice and beaten egg and salt. Add to liquid with remainder of flour to make a soft dough. Knead lightly and let rise for 1 1/2 hour. Turn out on a floured surface, roll to 1/3 inch thickness. Cut with doughnut cutter. Let rise on counter for 1 hour. Heat oil or lard to deep fry doughnuts. Fry one side and flip over, until medium brown. Dip into glaze or icing sugar or white sugar.
