1 c. sugar
1 c. lard (or other shortening)
1 c. dark Karo syrup
2 eggs
1 c. sour milk
1 t. nutmeg
1 t. ginger
2 t. soda
1 t. salt
3 t. cinnamon
1 t. cloves
About 5 c. flour (enough for soft dough)

Directions:
Directions:
Mix all together with just enough flour to make soft dough. Drop by t. on baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes, frost bottoms with powder sugar frosting.

Lucille used sorghum from the Amish instead of Karo syrup. This recipe is over 100 years old and came from her mother's brother-in-law Floyd Manwiller who lived to be almost 100 years old. LEM
