2 egg whites
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
3/4 c sugar
1/2 c dates, finely chopped
1 c walnuts, chopped
1 tbsp flour

Directions:
Directions:
Beat egg whites with salt and vanilla until soft peaks begin to form; gradually add sugar. Beat until stiff peaks form. Sprinkle dates and nuts with flour and fold into egg white mixture. Drop by teaspoonfuls; two inches apart; on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 350º for 10 to 12 minutes until edges are golden.

Grandma and Nana had a dialog about these cookies with Nana insisting that Grandma put her "special touches" on these cookies because Grandma's had a chewy texture and Nana's were more crispy. Probably the difference was just in the oven--so experiment with oven temp if you do not get desired results.
