2 c. boiling water
2 3/4 c. all purpose flour (sifted)
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 c. butter softened
2 1/2 c. sugar
4 eggs 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
*Frosting* 1/2 c. light cream
1 c. butter
1 (6 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
2 1/2 c. confectioners sugar

This cake has three layers with cream in between layers. Frosting directions: in medium saucepan combine, c. chips, cream, butter stir over medium heat until smooth. Remove from heat with whisk blend in sugar. In bowl set over ice. Beat until it holds its shape.
Whipped Cream Filling: whip cream with sugar and vanilla and then refrigerate.
Cake: In medium bowl combine cocoa with boiling water. Whisk until smooth. Cool completely. Sift flour with soda, salt, and baking powder. Preheat oven to 350º. Grease well and lightly flour 3-9 inch cake pans. In large bowl with electric mixer beat butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla scrapping bowl occasionally until light. At low speed beat in flour mix in fourths alternating with cocoa in thirds beginning and ending with flour. Do not over mix divide evenly in pans smooth top. Bake 25 minutes cool in pans for ten minutes. Carefully loosen with spatula and cool on racks. Assembly: 1st layer; topside down spread 1/2 cream. 2nd layer; top side down cake then spread with rest of cream. 3rd layer top side up. Frost top and sides
