Grandma’s Applesauce Cake

Preheat oven to 350°. Grease a 13x9-inch pan.

Cream together:
1 tbsp. shortening
1 cup sugar

Add:
1 cup applesauce
3 tbsp. hot water

Mix in:
1¾ cup flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
½ tsp. cloves
½ tsp. allspice
Pinch of salt

Pour into prepared pan and bake in a 350° oven for approximately 30 minutes.

This was a favorite when "The Sister's" were young. Going to Grandma Groat's house for a Sunday dinner sometimes ended with Applesauce Cake frosted with the all-time favorite cooked frosting (see page ______).
