1 large bunch asparagus; trimmed
1 -9" pastry shell (unbaked)
3 T. margarine or butter
3 T. all-purpose flour1/2 tsp. salt
1-1/2 C. milk 2%
4 eggs, beaten
1/2 C. swiss cheese (shredded)
1/4 C. bread crumbs

Bake 400ºF - 35 min. or until a knife inserted near center comes out clean.
Cut asparagus spears into 4" pieces; cut remaining spears into 1/2" pieces. Cook all asparagus in small amount of water until tender; drain & set aside. Line the pastry shell with a double thickness of heavy-duty foil. Bake at 450 F- (5 min.) Remove foil; bake 5 min. longer. Remove from oven & set aside. In saucepan over medium heat; melt margarine; stir in flour & salt. Gradually add milk; cook & stir until thickened. Stir in small amount eggs; return all to pan. Stir in cheese & 1/2 in. pieces asparagus. Pour into crust. Sprinkle with bread crumbs. Bake at 400 F. (35 min.) Arrange the 4-inch asparagus pieces in a spoke pattern on top.
