Ingredients:  
4 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 cup raisins
1 egg
1 3/4 cups buttermilk
1/4 cup shortening

Directions:
Directions:
sift dry ingredients together and add raisins
beat egg & buttermilk and melted shortening
mix all together thoroughly
turn out on lightly floured board
knead dough about one minute
shape in a round greased pan
mark in quarters and dot each quartered section with butter
allow to stand for 10-15 minutes
bake for one hour at 350ºF
