5 cups sifted flour (no more)
1 tsp baking soda
1 1/8 tsp cream of tartar
1 cup butter, room temperature
1 cup sugar
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 tsp salt
2 eggs slightly beaten
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp almond flavoring


Sugar mixture for topping
3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp lemon peel, dried or fresh
1 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp cinnamon

Directions:
Directions:
Sift together flour with baking soda and cream of tartar. Set aside.
In a small bowl combine all for sugar mixture and set aside.
In mixing bowl cream together butter and sugars. Add and combine salt, eggs, oil, vanilla, and almond flavoring.
Combine flour mixture with butter mixture. Drop by teaspoonfuls or roll in acorn size ball on ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten with a glass dipped in sugar mixture or leave plain and decorate as desired.
Bake at 350º for 10-12 minutes or until edges start to brown. Cool. Put in wax paper lined tins.
Makes 12 dozen.
