3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1/4 c. molasses
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 1/2 tsp. ginger
Additional sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together shortening and sugar until well blended. Add egg and beat thoroughly. Stir in molasses. Combine dry ingredients and add to mixture; mix well. Shape dough into small balls, about 3/4" in diameter. Roll balls in sugar and place on greased cookie sheet 2 inches apart. Bake at 350˚F for 10-15 minutes. Makes 4 1/2 - 5 dozen. May be baked without rolling in sugar, if desired.
