Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 cup butter (2 cubes)
4 squares baking chocolate
4 eggs
2 cups sugar
1 ¼ cups flour
¼ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon baking powder
2 generous teaspoons vanilla
1 cup broken walnuts or pecans (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Melt the butter and chocolate together, then cool a little bit.
Beat the eggs in just enough to mix. Add the sugar gradually.

Mix together, and then stir into the chocolate mixture the flour,
salt, baking powder, vanilla, and nuts (if using).

Pour into greased 9 x 13” pan. Bake about 30 minutes (or less) at 350 degrees. Be sure to take it out of the oven while the center is still very soft. These are supposed to be fudgy, not cakey.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
This is another recipe from Favorite Recipes of Home Economics Teachers: Desserts. Since 1966 I have made these brownies so many times that I find the recipe by thumbing through the book looking for the chocolate stains. During the years that Andee and I lived across the field from each other on the “400” ranch, I think at least one of us made this recipe every day.
