1/2 cup shortening
1/4 cup sugar
1 egg yolk, save egg white
1 tbl grated orange rind
3/4 cup walnuts chopped
1 1/2 tsp grated lemon rind
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbl lemon juice
1 cup flour
Beaten egg whites, maybe 2 or 3
1 jar each of red and green candied cherries

Directions:

Cream shortening and sugar. Add beaten yolk, orange and lemon rinds, vanilla and lemon juice. Mix well. Add flour. Store a few hours or overnight. Roll into small balls and roll in slightly beaten egg white and roll in nut meats. Cook on greased cookie sheet at 350º for 20 minutes. Place piece of red or green candied cherry on top of each.
