1 tablespoon of butter
1 cup of sugar

1. Mix all of the ingredients together for 10 minutes over heat, stirring well;
2. Turn off the heat and mix for about 2 more minutes;
3. Pour the mixture on a marble board and let cool;
4. Cut up in chunks.

This is a basic recipe for fudge-like doce de leite. Doce de leite, or dulce de leche in Spanish, is common throughout Latin America. It is generally a spread of medium-thick consistency. Here, it is allowed to cool on a marble so that it can be cut and dried in chunks.
