Hot Cross Buns and Cream Frosting Recipe

Ingredients: 5 - 5 1/2 cups flour 2 package active dry yeast 1/2 cup sugar 1 tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp each cardamon, cloves and nutmeg 1 1/4 cup milk 1/2 cup or 1 stick ole 2 eggs beaten 1/4 cup currants or raisins 1/3 cup candied orange peel 1 egg yolk mixed with 2 tbl water

Directions:Combine 2 cups flour, yeast, sugar, spices and heat milk and butter to 120º to 130º. Add to flour and beat 1 minute. Add currants and orange peel and remaining flour. Turn on floured board and knead about 5 min. Place in greased bowl turning to grease top. Cover and let rise to double in size (about 1 hour). Punch down, divide into half. Divide each half into 9 pieces and form into balls. Use 2 buttered 8 inch pans. Cover and let rise until double about 4 - 5 min. Brush lightly with egg yolk and water. Bake at 350º for 20 - 25 min.
Frosting: 1 pkg (3 oz) cream cheese softened 1 cup confectioners sugar 1 tsp milk Beat cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Add milk. Drizzle on buns in a cross shape. |
