3/4 c. shortening (I use butter flavored crisco stick) 1 c. sugar 1/4 c. molasses 1 egg 2 c. flour 2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. ginger 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
Cream shortening and sugar. Add molasses and egg, beating well. Mix flour, soda, spices and salt and add to first mixture. Mix well. Chill in refrigerator for at least 1 hour. Form mixture into 1 inch balls and roll in sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375º for 8 to 10 minutes.
