Decadent Chocolate Cake Recipe

Ingredients: 1 c boiling water
3 oz unsweetened chocolate
1 stick butter
1 t vanilla extract
2 c sugar
2 eggs - separated
1 t baking soda
1/2 c sour cream
2 c less 2 T sifted flour
1 t baking powder
Note - chocolate frosting recipe to follow

Directions: |
Directions:Preheat oven to 350º. Grease and flour 10" tube pan.
Pour boiling water over chocolate and butter; let stand until melted.
Stir in vanilla and sugar' then whisk in egg yolks one at a time blending well.
Mix baking soda and sour cream and whisk into chocolate mixture.
Stir flour and baking powder together and add to batter. Mix thoroughly.
Beat egg whites until still but not dry. Stir a third of the egg whites thoroughly through the batter. Stir remaining egg whites gently through mixture.
Pour batter into prepared pan. Set on middle oven rack and bake for 40-50 minutes until toothpick comes out clean.
Cool in the pan for ten minutes and unmold. Allow to cool completely before frosting.
Chocolate Frosting - 2 T butter
1/4 c semi sweet chocolate chips
6 T heavy cream
1 1/4 c sifted confectioners sugar
1 t vanilla extract
Place all ingredients into heavy saucepan and cook over low heat while whisking until smooth. You can add more sugar if you need to improve spreading consistency. |
