7 egg whites, beat until foamy
1 tsp. cream of tartar
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. flour
8 egg yolks
1/2 c. sugar
3 tbsp. water
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 egg white, beat until stiff (moist)

Directions:

Add cream of tartar to egg whites, a little at a time, beat until stiff. Sift 3/4 c. sugar and flour together. Add in 3 parts to egg whites. Set aside. Beat egg yolks 5 minutes at high speed; add 1/2 c. sugar while beating. Beat 1 extra minute. Add water and vanilla; beat 1 extra minute. Sift together flour and baking powder; add in 3 parts. With last egg white, beat until stiff (moist). Fold into egg yolk mixture. Mix two mixtures alternating in layers. Bake 35 minutes in 375º oven. Bake in ungreased pan. Turn upside down to cool.
