1 1/4 cup split peas (yellow or green - your choice)
1 hambone, shank or bouillon cube
2 quarts water
salt and butter to taste
1 med chopped onion
2 carrots (chopped)
3 tbsp chicken base (or vegetable base, if preferred)
1 lemon (wedged into about 6 pieces)

Directions:
Directions:
Bring all ingredients to a boil, cover and simmer gently for approximately 1 1/2 hours (until vegetables are very soft), stirring occasionally. Add salt and pepper to taste. When done, remove lemon wedges.

May be served as is or put through a sieve or blender with 2 tbsp of butter and pureed.
