Use recipes that can be partially prepared the night before so that cooking time in the oven or on the stove is the only time consuming thing. Also, using a crockpot (or slow cooker) helps. Electric buffets are also helpful. Once the food is prepared, you can put it in an electric buffet to keep it warm till serving.
