1 cube butter, softened
1 lb. Brown sugar
3 eggs
3 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
2 1/4 cups cake flour
3 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 8 oz carton sour cream
3 tsp vanilla
1 cup boiling water

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and brown sugar well. Add eggs, beat well. Add melted chocolate. Sift dry ingredients and add to cake batter alternately with sour cream. Add vanilla. At last add the cup of boiling water. Stir well and put in greased and floured cake pans. "I find it makes 3 layers or 2 layers and 8 cup cakes or 1 sheet cake (semi) size." Wilmot Bird
Bake 350º until done, 30 minutes or less.

Mom always made chocolate cup cakes from this recipe. I always wanted Hostess cupcakes with the white squiggle on top. What a shock when Mom finally bought me one, it was NOT chocolate cake! My choice for birthday cake for many years, this is as good as chocolate cake gets. Frost with a good, homemade chocolate frosting.
