3/4 c shortening
1 c brown sugar
1/4 c molasses
1 egg
2-1/4 c sifted flour
2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cloves

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375º. Cream together shortening, brown sugar, molasses, and egg until fluffy. Sift together the dry ingredients and stir into molasses mixture. Form into small balls (about quarter size). Roll in granulated sugar. Place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375º for 12 minutes.
