Ingredients: 2 cups flour 1/4 cup sugar 2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp salt 1/2 cup butter 1 tsp orange zest 3 TBS. orange juice 1 tsp. vanilla 2 egg whites 1/2 cup chocolate chips 1/2 cup toasted walnuts or pecans (optional)

Directions:Heat oven to 350º.
In a food processor: combine flour, butter, sugar, baking powder, salt and orange zest. Pulse to make fine crumbs. Turn out mixture into a bowl.
Add chocolate chips and nuts if using.
Blend orange juice, egg whites and vanilla; stir into dry ingredients.
Turn mixture into a 9 inch glass pie pan and press all over with tines of a fork to even out dough or form individual scones and place on a greased cookie sheet. Sprinkle with additional fine sugar. Bake 20-25 minutes until golden brown. |

Notes: Each scone is worth 8 points in weight watchers. Damn the cost, they are worth it. I use this recipe to make other scones using dried cranberries, blueberries or whatever you fancy.
